Julian Temple Band

Julian Temple Band is an alternative rock band from Dunedin, New Zealand fronted by Californian/New Zealand singer-songwriter Julian Temple. They formed in February, 2004. It was founded by Californian singer-songwriter Julian Temple as a surf-rock inspired project after post-graduate work at the University of Otago. The group gets its name from the backing band that supports Julian at his performances. The band have independently recorded and released five albums; ''In Sea'' (2006), ''Quiet Earth'' (2009), ''Balance Escapes'' (2010), ''Upsidedownbackwards'' (2012) and ''Ceiling in the Sky'' (2015).
The band began when Julian Temple enlisted fellow music student and drummer Paul Mclennan-Kissel whom he met at the University, and finished the three-piece line up with bass player Matthew Brook in 2004. The band began with performances in Dunedin, New Zealand, before playing larger venues around the country, including Rhythm and Vines 2004 in Gisborne, New Zealand. Julian Temple Band then released the highly acclaimed full-length album ''In Sea'' (2006), drawing comparisons with Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson.
After releasing sophomore effort ''Quiet Earth'' (2009) with Brook, the band continued as a trio with new bassist Scott Campbell. The band then released ''Balance Escapes'' (2010), which yielded the hit song "Debt Collector". In 2013 Temple recruited violinist and multi-instrumentalist Alex Vaatstra, and bass player and vocalist Paul McMillan to round out the line-up for ''Upsidedownbackwards'' (2013). Within a week of its release, ''Upsidedownbackwards'' debuted on the New Zealand Artists Albums Chart and quickly climbed to number 7 over five weeks.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://nztop40.co.nz/chart/nzalbums?chart=2110 )〕 With their fifth album ''Ceiling in the Sky'', the band made their Official New Zealand Albums Chart debut, peaking at number 15.
Over the course of the band's career they have toured extensively across New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, and received many accolades in their native New Zealand and abroad, including securing a finalist position in the 2013 International Songwriting Competition in the AAA category.
